Mark Mangino Needs a Dictionary.

Mark Mangino is under fire. Here’s an example from a former captain of the team, Joe Mortensen.

He told me he’d send me back to Oakland where I could be drinking out of a brown paper bag. He told me, ‘You were a s—- friend to someone I knew that passed away.’ He called me a bum. He showed me no respect. He told me he’d send me back to the ghetto. I’m not a victim. I’m a grown man. I never let Mangino get to me. But you know what? I’m not bitter. I loved KU and I never let him break me.

The Kansas University football coach used his radio program last evening to defend himself against the charges.

I’ll be honest with you, some of this stuff is flat-out embellished and just not true.

Mangino should know that embellish only means “to add detail.” So then a statement can’t really be “flat-out embellished” and “not true” at the same time, can it?

Who would ever call a coach into question who utters the following statement in response to these alleged personal attacks he launched on players?

I think there are people embarrassing this program just for their 15 minutes of fame.

No way he insulted anyone.  Cripes, with a statement like that he’s practically Mother Teresa.

Mind you, I think this is really bullsh-t. I think Mangino is in bad straits because the team started 5-0 and is now 5-5. If KU were preparing for a bowl game now, I don’t think any of this would be public.
