This space has been politically silent*, from a national perspective, for the most part since President Obama took office. With the latest polls showing 47 apiece, it may be time to get out the crank and get the Lizzie running.
My first salvo of this season is going to be simply this observation. There are equal numbers on both sides and there are fewer undecided than ever before. That's my opinion, not necessarily the facts. If any candidate is going to see much of a swing, I think it has to be Romney. People like me, who supported Obama in 2008, may still be polling for Obama, which I would if asked today, but are susceptible to hopping on the Romney bandwagon.
*i have mentioned ObamaCare and its impact on Catholics and not a whole lot else.

and so it begins…..
as you can tell from my post, I was merely making an observation on the process, not on any of the reasons why it is either an important election nor why one should support one candidate over another. certainly there is plenty of time for hat gentlemen.
well said roland
i think the president has actually been quite effective in moving legislation despite mitch mcconnell (who should be tried for treason for his statement at attempting to make obama fail) – it is almost a shame the mandate was found constitutional because i believe it would have moved us closer to the single payer system we ultimately need/will eventually have. taxes on the rich are at an all-time low (leading to our deficits) and history has shown low taxes have no effect on job growth; appropriate regulations have been gutted (leading to the largest financial crisis since the depression) and banks investment firms and insurance companies now participate in legalize gambling with clients money where they wind up the only winners; obama is responsibly ending conflicts bush started for illegal and pointless reasons that have enriched the military bureaucracy and contractors but have made new generations of foreigner that hate the US.
all of these and more PLUS the need for a more centrist supreme court would be much worse under romney… the president has been reasonable, mostly well focused, honest and tough… and he wants to be president for what i see as the “right” reasons… not ego, payouts nor paybacks, not to play favorites. this should not be close but it is… and thanks to citizens united, a small group of super-wealthy are within a reasonable distance of buying this election
Sorry, there is a typo error in my comment above — the word “anointment” is supposed to be “appointment” – I wonder if spell check did that or if I did. Oh, well! My bad!
I agree with you, totally. I also voted fro Obama. While I am not pleased by the President’s performance record in office, I cannot jump ship for the other guy for one basic reason that is pretty much the reasoning I used in 4 years ago. Back then, I did not think in terms of voting for the candidate for President. I much preferred some other Democrats over Obama but Obama was the candidate. I have always been interested in John McCain and when he became the Republican nominee for President, I seriously considered voting for him. However, when it came time to actually vote, I cast my vote based on who I preferred to see as Vice President. Here is my logic: The nominees for President and Vice President run in tandem and we actually vote for the electoral college candidates who have pledged to a certain Presidential ticket. In reaching my decision I looked at the candidates for Vice President Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. I did so because I know if a President cannot serve the full term either due to death or inability then the Vice President becomes President. There was absolutely no way that I could favor Sarah Palin; therefore I voted for the delegates pledged to Biden who were also pledged to Obama. My reasoning this time around is somewhat similar but not the same (the running mates have not even been decided yet); I cannot in good conscience support Mitt Romney for President and therefore I will give my support to the re-election of President Obama. I also realize that it is Congress that actually establishes the national budget, that is Congress that actually appropriates and approves expenditures, that it is Congress that passes legislation including that which involve taxation, that it is the US Senate that must approve anointment to federal judicial positions, etc., etc. etc. I also realize that it is the US Supreme Court that makes determination on matters of constitutionality. Apparently, many people fault or credit a President for matters in which the President is not the final say. It is unfortunate that the majority of Americans lack a good understanding of American government, its functions, its processes and procedures, its legitimate role, its limitations, etc.
